               The Stanley Gibbons Group Limited ("the Company")

                             Purchase of own shares

At its AGM in April this year, a special resolution was passed giving the
Company authority to purchase up to 3,724,000 of its own shares. The Company
announces that it has today bought 450,000 of its Ordinary Shares for
cancellation at a price of 17.5p per share.

As stated in the interim results for the period to 30 June 2002, as a result of
the ongoing review of operations, the Company's customer base has increased,
overheads have been reduced, margins have improved and the Board believes that
the future prospects of the business are promising. Following the cancellation
the total number of shares in issue will be 24,376,736.
