NETWORK TECHNOLOGY : FIRST QUARTER TRADING STATEMENT

Network Technology PLC, the network connectivity specialist which
designs and manufactures printservers, routers, HUBs, plotters and
network management software, today released a trading statement
covering its first quarter ended 31 December 1997.

In the statement Graham Woodhead, Chairman, says: "In our Annual Report
we referred to significantly higher order levels being achieved in the
first two months of the current financial year.

"We are delighted to report that sales for the first quarter ended 31
December 1997 are 69 per cent higher than in the same period last year.
On a like-for-like basis, excluding businesses acquired, the improvement
was 46 per cent. Orders for Fast Ethernet technology accounted for an
increasing proportion of sales and we also benefited from an increased
contribution to profits from our acquired companies.

"We are also fortunate that the turmoil currently affecting Asian
markets need not have a major impact on us. Although we supply most of
the major Japanese OEM printer manufacturers, their products are
exported all over the world. Furthermore, the Japanese market has
historically accounted for 20 per cent of the world computer market and
this is likely to continue.

"During the quarter we made significant progress in developing our
storage system products. Production of the first units, designated for
customer demonstration and evaluation purposes, started this month.
Initial feedback from customers and system integrators is encouraging.

"In September 1997 we acquired Nextus Inc, a Texas-based manufacturer
which populates and tests printed circuit boards. Nextus is the group's
US manufacturing facility and will, in due course, become the group's
main US manufacturing and shipping logistics hub.

"In November 1997 we acquired Bits Per Second Ltd, a leading edge
technology company based in Brighton. This company provides graphing
and charting expertise to OEMs and software developers and has helped
with the development of the application software aspect of our storage
system products.

"Our growth in the next few years will come from a number of new
products which we have been developing over the last three years. In
the meantime, we are very pleased with our start to the year and we look
forward to achieving satisfactory first half results."
