START OF DRILLING AT NIMU
LONDON - 10 April 2007
Central China Goldfields plc (AIM: GGG) announces that drilling at the Nimu
Copper - Molybdenum Project has commenced. The first Longyear LF90 drill rig,
operated by Sichuan Huafeng Drilling Company, was mobilised last week and the
first drill hole was collared on Friday 6 April 2007.
A second drill rig will arrive on site by the third week of April and the two
drill rigs will work in tandem at the Tinggong area.
Tinggong is the most advanced of the seven Exploration Licences at the Nimu
Project. The Tinggong area is considered as a near-mine exploration target
because the licence (14.93 km2) surrounds an active copper mine. The mine is
reported to contain non-JORC, CIM or NI 43-101 compliant inferred resources of
supergene oxide copper of 28,000 tonnes contained copper (averaging 1.1% Cu)
and hypogene sulphide copper at 23,700 tonnes contained copper (data taken from
Sichuan Bureau of Metallurgy and Geological Exploration).
The drilling programme at Tinggong is designed to test the supergene oxide
copper and the underlying porphyry copper targets. Targets were selected using
a combination of geological and alteration mapping and geophysical surveys (IP,
resistivity and ground magnetic). An initial programme is planned with nine
holes and a total 2,900 metres of drilling.
Following drilling at Tinggong, the rigs will be moved to the Gangjiang
Exploration Licence where drilling is scheduled to start in June 2007. The
Company will consider adding further drill rigs to expedite the drilling
programme.
The drilling programme at the Nimu Project will be supervised by Project
Manager Henry Tebar MSc and Exploration Manager Ciceron ("Jun") Angeles MSc
FAusIMMM.
Henry has seven years of experience in mineral exploration with particular
emphasis on porphyry copper deposits. Henry holds a Masters degree in Geology
from the University of Canterbury New Zealand, a Masters degree in Logistics
Management from the University of Sydney Australia and completed three years of
PhD research in porphyry copper at the University of Alberta, Canada.
Jun has 30 years of experience in mineral exploration specialising in
epithermal gold-silver, porphyry copper-gold and Carlin style mineralisation.
He obtained his MSc in Mineral Exploration from the University of New South
Wales, Australia and is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and
Metallurgy (AusIMM). Jun is qualified as a Competent Person under the
Australasian Code for the Reporting of Mineral Exploration Results, Mineral
Resources or Ore Reserves ("The JORC Code") of the Australasian Institute of
Mining and Metallurgy.
Technical information in the Company news release has been reviewed and
approved by Ciceron "Jun" Angeles (MSc. FAusIMM, CP Geo), the Company's
Exploration Manager.
