                    TRENCHING RESULTS FROM GAOJIAMO LICENCE

POTENTIAL THIRD GOLD DEPOSIT IN THE BAIMA AREA, SNOW MOUNTAIN PROJECT

LONDON - 1 August 2006 - Central China Goldfields plc (AIM: GGG), a mineral
exploration and development company operating in China, is pleased to report
results from a recent trenching programme at its Gaojiamo ("GJM") licence area.

The GJM licence area is located approximately 4km to the east of the Company's
Songpanguo deposit and about 4km to the south of the Shiuniujia deposit. This
area within the Snow Mountain regions is collectively called the Baima area and
is situated in the Sichuan Province of China. The area is an emerging gold
region in China with Carlin-style gold mineralisation.

Recently the Company reported gold mineralisation from all five drill holes at
Songpanguo and stated its ambition to demonstrate at least 1 million ounces of
gold in the Snow Mountain Project. The latest trenching results from Songpanguo
justify the Company's continued confidence in this particular `flagship'
project. The other flagship project is the Nimu copper-molybdenum project in
Tibet.

Further exploration work is currently in progress at all three Snow Mountain
licence areas, as well as Nimu.

Highlights:

  * Trench GJM15RExtension returns 22 metres @ 0.72 grammes of gold per tonne
    ("g/t Au") including two intervals of 2 metres @ 1.17 g/t Au and 3 metres @
    1.98 g/t Au

  * Trench 29 returns 9.30 metres @ 0.70 g/t Au including two intervals of 1
    metre @ 2.05 g/t Au and 1 metre @ 1.42 g/t Au

  * Trenches are being excavated to the northwest and southeast of this zone to
    test the strike length

  * A tunnel is currently being driven to test the sub-surface extension of
    this zone

Jeff Malaihollo, Managing Director of Central China Goldfields, comments:

"Following early indications from last year's work, we tested the Gaojiamo
Licence area and we are very excited about the prospect of more gold in this
area. If further work is positive, then this could potentially be the third
deposit within a radius of 4-6 km in the Baima area. Carlin-style deposits
normally occur in clusters or trends and our drilling, tunnelling and trenching
work so far begin to demonstrate the presence of one of these clusters."

GEOLOGICAL DETAILS:

The Gaojiamo Licence area was originally discovered by stream sediment
geochemistry. Soil geochemistry was presented as contoured data but the
original results could not be located. Twelve trenches averaging 60 metres long
were dug by our partner the SBMGE. Trenching returned a maximum intercept of
2.7g/t Au over a width of 1.57 metres. Structure is the primary control on gold
mineralisation, which occurs in two steeply-dipping, lens shaped zones
approximately 200 metres in length. The hydrothermal mineral association
includes pyrite, silica, stibnite and chlorite.

In 2005 two trenches totalling 181 metres (GJM15R and GJM21) were re-sampled
and two new trenches of 198 metres (GJM22 and 23) were dug. Two thin zones were
intersected: 1 metre @ 5.4 g/t Au within 2 metres @ 1.39 g/t Au in GJM15 and 1
metre @ 0.9 g/t Au in GJM22. These occur in a Middle Devonian silicified,
graphitic siltstone, shale and calcareous phyllite with dacitic intrusives and
strong limonite staining. The mineralised zones are controlled by northwest
trending shears.

In 2006 we opened up 3 trenches and we report the results:

     Trench Total length Mineralised interval

                                     2m @ 1.17 g/t Au and 3m @ 1.98 g/t Au

GJM29 318.19 metres 9.30m @ 0.70 g/t Au including

                                     1m @ 2.05 g/t Au and 1m @ 1.42 g/t Au

GJM25 1004.72 metres No significant intersection

GJM15RExtension is an extension of the GJM15R and the trench was deepened.

An adit is actively being driven to test the downdip extension of
mineralisation. Trenches have also been excavated to the northwest and
southeast to test the strike length. Assay results are pending for these
trenches.
