                                  Board change

Carpetright plc today announces Mr Lionel Ross, 72, will retire from his
position as a non-executive director of the company, with effect from 27 April
2002. Mr Ross has been a director since 1994 and is Chairman of the Audit
Committee, in which capacity he will be succeeded by Baroness Noakes.

Mr Ross will remain as Chairman of the Pension Funds Trustees for the immediate
future.

The Board would like to thank him for his valuable contribution during his
period of office.
