BOARD CHANGE

Melbourn, UK: Cambridge Antibody Technology Group plc (CAT) today announces
that one of the Group's five non-executive directors, Dr Stuart Weisbrod, will
resign at the end of the Group's financial year on 30 September 1998.

Dr Weisbrod was appointed as a director of CAT in June 1996.  Earlier this
year he co-founded Merlin BioMed Asset Management, a fund management company
which invests globally in the life science industries.

On his resignation, Dr Weisbrod said:

"I have greatly enjoyed the last two and a half years on CAT's Board and
working with CAT's management team.  My other commitments mean that I no
longer have sufficient time to devote to CAT's affairs but I leave the Group
in the hands of a strong and able Board of directors and look forward to
watching progress over the years to come."

Professor Peter Garland, Chairman of CAT, commented:

"Whilst we are obviously sad to see Stuart go, we fully understand the reasons
behind his departure and wish him every success with Merlin BioMed.  I would
like to take this opportunity to thank him for his support over the last two
and a half years.  He has been supportive in all areas of our development and
his advice has been invaluable, particularly over the time of our successful
float last year."
