On December 19 1997 the Company issued an additional 14,982 10p ordinary
shares (approximately 0.07% of the existing shareholding) to its wholly owned
subsidiary CAT Group Employees' Trustees Limited the Corporate Trustee of   an
Inland Revenue approved Staff Share Scheme. The Corporate Trustee will hold
the shares for the benefit of the eligible employees pursuant to the terms  of
the Scheme. The Directors of CAT Group Employees' Trustee Limited are John
Aston Peter Garland and Sir Aaron Klug all of whom are also directors of
Cambridge Antibody Technology plc. A separate announcement has been made today
regarding the shareholding of Executive Directors as a result of operation of
the Scheme.
