                 ACQUISITION OF "BIG AM" LICENCES IN MANCHESTER


Capital Radio plc, the UK's leading commercial radio group, today announces the
acquisition from The Wireless Group of Big AM's AM analogue and digital licences
which broadcast to Greater Manchester. The licences will be re-branded as
Capital Gold and will be important additions to the Capital Gold portfolio,
bolstering the presence of the network in the UK.

In the latest Rajar report (Quarter 4, 2001), Capital Gold in London enjoyed an
uplift in its number of listeners and overtook Virgin FM to become London's 10th
biggest station in terms of both reach and share. The extension of the Capital
Gold Network to Manchester will boost its potential audience from 15.8 million
to 18.1 million adults.

The Wireless Group has transferred the ownership of Big AM's licences to a new
company which has no other assets or liabilities. Capital Radio has acquired
this new company for the cash consideration of £250,000.

David Mansfield, Chief Executive of Capital Radio said:

'The acquisition of Big AM is the latest development in our strategy to build
our national presence in UK radio and strengthen our brands. This deal allows us
to build Capital Radio's presence in the lucrative North-West region and also
enables us to expand our successful Capital Gold format.'

Notes to Editor

1.      Big AM's format is pop and rock from the last four decades, consistent
with the format of Capital Gold. Local news and travel information will be
supplied by Capital Radio's Century radio station in Manchester.

2.      The Capital Gold Network currently broadcasts to London, Birmingham,
Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and South Wales.

3.      Big AM carries with it a corresponding digital radio licence
broadcasting on the CE Digital multiplex (Capital Radio's joint venture
multiplex with Emap).

4.      Big AM has a coverage area of 2.3 million adults.
