                                 BOARD CHANGES
                    RETIREMENT OF IAN IRVINE / NEW CHAIRMAN


Capital Radio plc announces the retirement from the Board of Directors of Ian
Irvine and his replacement as Non-Executive Chairman by Peter Cawdron, the
current Deputy Chairman, with effect from today, 23rd January 2002.

Ian Irvine retires after serving almost twenty years on Capital Radio's Board of
Directors. Ian has been Chairman since 1992, having served as a non-executive
director since 1982.

Ian has played a significant role in the successful growth and development of
the Company, helping to evolve Capital Radio into the UK's leading commercial
radio group.  The Board would like to thank Ian for his support and contribution
to the Company and wishes him every success for the future.

Peter Cawdron joined the Board of Capital Radio as a Non-Executive Director in
December 2000 and has been Deputy Chairman since October 2001.

David Mansfield, Chief Executive, commented:

"Shareholders and staff owe Ian a considerable debt of gratitude for the way he
has steered the company through successful and challenging times.  I have
greatly enjoyed working with Ian and I will miss his experience, advice and wise
