                                 TRADING UPDATE


Capital Radio plc, the UK's leading commercial radio group, announces a trading
update for the quarter ended 31 December 2001, to coincide with its Annual
General Meeting being held today.

Trading in the October to December quarter reflected the continuing tough
advertising market.  The Group's radio revenue was down 9% against the same
quarter last year, which was in line with our expectations.

There has been no material change in conditions since our last trading update in
November 2001 and we remain cautious regarding current advertising demand.  We
continue to manage the cost base of our business on the assumption that the
advertising market remains under pressure for the rest of our financial year.
