                            84th quarterly dividend

Atlanta, GA - The board of directors of BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS) today
declared a regular quarterly dividend of 27 cents per common share. The
fourth-quarter dividend is payable Feb. 1, 2005 to shareholders of record as of
the close of business on Jan. 13, 2005.

BellSouth has approximately 1.8 billion shares outstanding in 700,000 registered
shareholder accounts. This is the 84th consecutive quarterly dividend declared
by BellSouth.
