MONTREAL, Nov. 22, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Shop The
Neighbourhood, a local shopping awareness campaign from Yellow
Pages (TSX: Y), encourages Canadians to adopt sustainable
shopping habits by supporting small businesses in their
communities. This year, to celebrate its fourth edition, Shop
The Neighbourhood - now a year-round campaign - continues to
put an emphasis on the Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber
Monday and is asking Canadians to take part in the Shop The
Neighbourhood Challenge by making a local purchase during one
of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.
Approximately 12,500 businesses and one million Canadians
participated in last year's Shop The Neighbourhood event
resulting in $155 million invested
back into the Canadian economy.
WHAT: Yellow Pages employees, along with participating
local business associations, will be mobilizing in select
neighbourhoods across Canada to
raise awareness for the importance of local businesses and the
positive impacts of shopping locally. To celebrate the shop local
cause, street teams will be distributing free Shop The
Neighbourhood balloons and shopping bags. Canadians are invited
to join in the festivities and take the Shop The
Neighbourhood Challenge by making purchases at local
businesses in their neighbourhoods to show their support.
WHEN: Saturday, November
26th – 11:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m.

WHY: Shop The Neighbourhood aims to bring
awareness to the benefits of supporting small business and to
challenge Canadians to shop local year-round and especially during
the holiday season when large-scale shopping events drive dollars
away from our local economies. Shop The Neighbourhood
reminds Canadians that small businesses are our economic backbone.
They create jobs, funnel funds back into the community, keep
decision-making power localized, and generally contribute to
building healthy, thriving neighbourhoods. Shopping locally means
helping strengthen small businesses and, by proxy, the
neighbourhoods where Canadians live, work and play.
