TORONTO, Nov. 25, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Shop The
Neighbourhood, a free initiative of Yellow Pages (TSX: Y),
encourages Canadians to support small businesses in their
communities by making local purchases and shopping in their
neighbourhoods. The initiative also provides participating
businesses with free access to digital marketing tools and services
to attract customers during the largest shopping period of the
year. Canadians are invited to download the YP Shopwise app and
benefit from exclusive Shop The Neighbourhood deals and
promotions from participating businesses.
Approximately 12,500 businesses and 400 business associations
from across the country are participating in the third edition of
Shop The Neighbourhood.
WHAT: Several hundred Yellow Pages employees will be
joining a selection of participating local business associations in
neighbourhoods across Canada to
raise awareness of local shopping. In addition to a decorated
neighbourhood and festive atmosphere, street teams will be
distributing free Shop The Neighbourhood balloons and
shopping bags in support of the shops on the neighbourhood
mainstreet. Participating businesses will be offering exclusive
deals to consumers, accessible via the YP Shopwise app.

WHY: Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday,
two shopping days notorious for driving dollars online or across
the border, Shop The Neighbourhood reminds Canadians that
small businesses are our economic backbone. They create jobs,
funnel funds back into the community, keep decision-making power
localized, and generally contribute to building healthy, thriving
neighbourhoods. Shopping locally means helping strengthen small
businesses and by proxy, the neighbourhoods where Canadians live,
work and play.
