STOCKHOLM, July 3, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX:
GIB.A) has developed and implemented a new digital guide
solution—Biblioteket—designed to revolutionize how citizens access
and enjoy a wide range of public services, including libraries and
museums. The solution is part of CGI's ongoing involvement in the
movement to build smart cities across the globe to improve the
quality of life of citizens through innovative technology. Using
iBeacon technology, Biblioteket identifies where a visitor is
located within a building to provide indoor navigation and guided
tours. It also offers detailed visitor information, answers
questions, displays event calendars, provides unique support for
people with disabilities, and more.
The solution, which was developed by CGI in Sweden on behalf of the Gothenburg City
Library, can be used to enhance the visitor experience not only for
libraries and museums, but also parks, tourist attractions and
other public venues anywhere in the world. In addition to improving
visitor traffic and engagement, it relieves administrative burdens,
so that staff can focus instead on providing better services and
helps to save resources and costs.
"The app has been very warmly received by the 25 libraries
throughout Gothenburg," said
Rebecca Odin Ekström, librarian at Gothenburg City Library. "It's
linked to our complete catalog of materials, making it easy to find
and reserve an item, as well as plan a visit to the library based
on upcoming events."
"We see tremendous opportunity to use this at museums and other
institutions across Europe and
North America where many venues
are showing interest," said Pär Fors, senior vice-president, CGI,
Sweden. "The solution is all about
using advanced digital technology to provide better public services
and ensure visitors have the best possible experience. It's one of
many smart city solutions CGI has delivered to transform how cities
operate for the benefit of their citizens and society as a
whole."
The Biblioteket solution uses Bluetooth technology to locate a
visitor and then highlights relevant services for that particular
location. It was originally developed in response to the increasing
demand for multilingual guided tours of architectural and art
exhibitions. During the app's development phase for the Gothenburg
City Library, a number of features were added, such as an
interactive quiz, events calendar and chat capabilities.
The app is provided by the Gothenburg City Library, free of
charge, and is available in both the Google and Apple app
stores.
