News Corporation Files Materials in the United States

NEW YORK, August 22, 2003:  On August 21, 2003 News Corporation (NYSE: NWS,
NWS.A) ("News Corp."), filed a Registration Statement of News Corp. on Form F-4
("Form F-4") with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC"), that
contains a consent solicitation statement of General Motors Corporation ("GM"),
a prospectus of News Corp. and a prospectus of Hughes Electronics ("Hughes"),
all in connection with the separation of Hughes from GM and the acquisition by
News Corp. of 34 percent of the common stock of Hughes.  The Form F-4 and any
other documents filed by News Corp. with the SEC, may be obtained for free at
the SEC's website, www.sec.gov.

A copy of such materials filed with the SEC will shortly be submitted to the UK
Listing Authority and will be available for inspection at the UK Listing
Authority document viewing facility which is situated at: Document Viewing
