Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. said Wednesday that it has agreed to buy outdoor retailer Moosejaw from Walmart Inc.

The sporting goods retailer said the acquisition will expand its outdoor portfolio and reaffirms its commitment to the long-term business opportunity in the growing multibillion-dollar outdoor category.

Moosejaw was founded in Michigan in 1992, and operates a highly successful e-commerce platform. Moosejaw also operates brick-and-mortar locations in Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan and Missouri.

Once the acquisition closes, Moosejaw Chief Executive Eoin Comerford will report to Todd Spaletto, senior vice president of Dick's Sporting Goods.

The deal is expected to close in March.
