PASADENA, Calif., June 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Jacobs Engineering
Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today that it received an award for
"Best of the Best" in the large contractor category from the
Houston Business Roundtable (HBR) at its 25th Annual Safety
Excellence Awards Banquet in Galveston,
Texas. The award recognized Jacobs' achievement of 410
thousand work hours with zero lost time incidents (LTIs) at the
AkzoNobel Functional Chemicals Battleground project site, as well
as 4,989 days with zero LTIs at its Merichem Houston project
site.
The achievement reflects Jacobs' culture of caring and deep
rooted commitment to safety. The award is presented on an annual
basis to the very "Best of the Best" in processes, procedures and
employee participation concerning safety. AkzoNobel Battleground
and Merichem Houston nominated Jacobs for the award. The process to
achieve this recognition involves the project owner nominating a
contractor based on eligibility focused on size and core competency
of each company. The nominated contractors are audited on
documentation, innovation and employee participation, with a key
component around site leadership.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President
Phil Stassi stated, "Words
cannot express my delight in accepting the HBR recognition.
Receiving 'Best of the Best, Large Contractor' demonstrates to our
employees worldwide that obtaining five-plus years without an
injury is not only possible, it's being accomplished at our very
own sites."
The work scope at the AkzoNobel Battleground site includes
mechanical, electrical and instrument maintenance and support of
environmental, warehouse and shipping services. The site produces
high purity metal organics which require special handling for their
pyrophoric and explosive properties. The Merichem Houston site's
work scope includes the fabrication of vessels, piping and
structures supporting the production of treatment modules used by
the petrochemical industry.
Established in 1988, the Houston Business Roundtable (HBR),
consisting of Industrial owners in the Greater Houston Gulf Coast
area, is dedicated to saving and preserving the lives of industrial
workers. HBR recognizes Greater Houston Area Industrial Contractors
for outstanding safety performance.
Jacobs is one of the world's largest and most diverse providers
of technical, professional, and construction services.
