Cantel Medical Corp.'s Crosstex Subsidiary Addresses School MRSA Concerns With SaniTyze(TM) Brand Hand Sanitizer and Sanitex(R)

PR Newswire (US)
LITTLE FALLS, N.J., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CANTEL MEDICAL
CORP. (NYSE:CMN), through its Crosstex subsidiary, reports
significant interest from schools for its hand sanitization and
surface disinfectant products in light of increased reported
incidence of MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)
skin infections. According to R. Scott Jones, Cantel Medical's
President & CEO, "We are in contact with numerous school
officials helping them respond to the growing threat of MRSA and
the need to address concerns. They recognize the need for
preventative measures against the spread of MRSA and other
infectious bacteria and viruses. While school officials recognize
that thorough hand washing remains the most effective means of
inhibiting spread of germs, studies show that less than half of
middle and high school students wash their hands for greater than
five seconds. Waterless alcohol-based hand sanitizers, such as
Crosstex's SaniTyze(TM) brand, are recommended by the Center for
Disease Control (CDC) as an effective method of hand hygiene." Jay
McCann, a Board Member of the Caldwell/West Caldwell, NJ school
district says, "MRSA and other infections are a big concern to
students, parents, and school officials. We need to do all we can
to prevent infection, and hand hygiene is the single strongest
recommendation we're hearing. We're placing Crosstex waterless hand
sanitizers in high-touch or high risk areas such as our sports
field house, locker rooms, and cafeterias. Because it's fast and
easy, we think the kids will use it, and we'll improve overall hand
hygiene in the schools." According to the CDC, when MRSA skin
infections occur, cleaning and disinfection should be performed on
surfaces that are likely to contact uncovered or poorly covered
infections. Our Sanitex(R) line of surface disinfecting sprays and
wipes are EPA listed as effective against MRSA. Andrew G.
Whitehead, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Crosstex,
added, "With all the different strains of bacteria and viruses out
there, product claims against those bugs can be confusing.
Crosstex's waterless hand sanitizers and surface disinfectants are
listed by the EPA as effective against a number of bacteria and
viruses, including MRSA. Those claims are clearly listed on the
Crosstex website (http://www.crosstex.com/)." He adds, "Crosstex
products have held significant market share in healthcare markets
for a number of years because of their high quality and efficacy.
We are now introducing them into other markets, such as schools and
businesses, as highly effective in meeting a growing public need."
