Laboratory-instrument maker Agilent Technologies Inc. (A) said Wednesday that the amount of energy it used for its products and services fell 4% in 2018, as part of its goal to reduce its environmental impact.

The company has a 10% energy reduction target by 2024, and said it improved the energy efficiency of its operations last year, consuming 144,000 megawatts per hour.

It said some of the energy reductions were due to the introduction of its chromatography instrument Intuvo 9000 Gas Chromatography System, which uses less power and is faster compared to predecessor instruments.

Agilent Technologies added it has saved $2.5 million worth of energy since 2015.

However, the company said it didn't reach its target of a 2% reduction of water withdrawal. Agilent is aiming for a 20% reduction by 2024 in the amount of municipal water it consumes.

The company met its target for waste management, it said. It diverted 96% of all of its waste from landfill through various recycling and source-reduction activities.
