Stratos Lightwave Offers High-Density, Low-Profile Rack Kit for Its
Video Media Converters CHICAGO, April 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Stratos Lightwave LLC is announcing a new rack kit for its compact
line of Video Media Converters (VMCs). Also available as a throw
down unit with cover, the rack kit provides as many as 18 channels
of BNC-to-fiber conversion in a 19" rack unit that's only 1RU high.
This product is designed for applications including field
production, studio infrastructure links, cable broadcasting
networks, outside broadcast trucks and vans, video distribution in
conventions and conference centers, or anywhere high-density
broadcast video aggregation and transport is needed. Stratos
Lightwave's VMCR-18-X Video Media Converter Rack includes redundant
110/220VAC power supplies capable of powering 18 Stratos VMCs. A
built-in Digital Diagnostic Monitoring Interface (DDMI) allows for
remote identification and monitoring of the functions of all 18
VMCs via a standard 10/100 Ethernet-compliant web-enabled port. The
unit can be populated with any mix of Stratos VMC or Mini VMC
simplex receivers and/or simplex transmitters, with any combination
of SD or HD protocols. Set-up changes are easy, since the VMC
transceivers simply plug into place. The front panel of the media
converter rack is equipped with 18 industry- standard 75 ohm
single-ended female BNC connectors, and are intended for incoming
and/or outgoing electrical TX/RX signals. The rear of the unit is
fitted with a fiber strain relief shelf, which allows the user a
choice of fiber cable management systems based on a variety of SM
fiber cables. Other features of the rack unit include front panel
transmitter/receiver LED indicators to provide a quick indication
of whether transmitters or receivers have been installed inside
each unit port, front panel power supply and temperature status
LEDs, and a front panel channel ID strip. Two versions of the rack
unit are being offered. The VMCR-18-R comes with sliding side rails
to allow installation into a standard 19" rack. These rails have an
adjustment range of 20 to 30", and they make it easy to slide out
the unit for quick installation or change-overs. The other version
is the VMCR-18-T throw-down unit, and it comes with a top cover
instead of side rails. Pending certifications for these racks
include UL 1950, CE Directive 73/23/ECC and FCC Class B, Subpart
15. Both the rack-mount and throw-down versions are available now,
with delivery times of 6 - 8 weeks. Pricing varies depending on
version desired and quantity ordered, and it is competitive with
the physically-larger, lower- density hardware from other vendors
which provides similar functionality. Visit
