Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:RBAK), a leading provider of next-generation broadband networking systems, today announced that the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) has honored Redback's SmartEdge(R) 100 with an InfoVision Award in the "Metro Network Technologies and Services" category. Winners representing top broadband innovation in Asia received the award at the IEC's Broadband World Forum Asia 2006 event in Hong Kong last week. "The InfoVision Awards recognize technologies, applications, and products that are unique and beneficial to the telecommunications industry," said Roger Plummer, IEC executive vice president. "We are proud to congratulate some of the brightest innovative companies whose contributions significantly benefited the information and communications industry as well as the community." "We are continually expanding our family of IP routers striving to develop innovative products that can provide significant and tangible benefits to the service provider community," said Marco Wanders, chief marketing officer, Redback Networks. "The SmartEdge 100 is designed to help service providers provide next-generation IP services such as VoIP, IPTV and video-on-demand, and the InfoVision Award helps to independently validate the potential benefits that we believe that service providers can realize when they leverage Redback's innovative technology." InfoVision Award winners were judged anonymously by a review committee composed of industry experts from vendor companies, service providers and industry associations. Criteria included originality, vision, potential contribution toward positive industry growth and service, quality of innovation, market success, contribution to end-user satisfaction and service efficiency. Submissions were also evaluated on the value of the service or technology in solving recognized technology problems, meeting network requirements, optimizing service and performance and enhancing customer service. InfoVision Award recipients were honored during a special luncheon held on May 17 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Mr. Wanders accepted the InfoVision Award on the company's behalf. Finalists in the Metro Network Technologies and Services category included Redback Networks, Lucent and Alcatel.
