METRO RTA, the public transit provider for the City of Akron and
Summit County, Ohio, has awarded Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (Nasdaq:
CLNE) a five-year contract to operate and maintain the fueling
station for METROs fleet of 45 full-sized compressed natural gas
(CNG) buses. Located south of Cleveland, with a population of more
than 200,000, Akron is the largest city in Summit Countys
420-square mile territory. METRO RTA averages six million transit
passenger trips a year on more than 30 routes throughout the
County. We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with
METRO, an agency that, early on, demonstrated its commitment to
environmental quality and operating cost efficiency with its choice
of CNG buses, said Andrew Littlefair, President and CEO, Clean
Energy. Ten-plus years of experience has shown them that natural
gas buses are cleaner to operate and cheaper to use, which helps
provides financial support in a constrained budget environment.
METRO RTA is Clean Energys first customer in Ohio, Littlefair
said. And already a number of other Ohio public agencies have
expressed a strong interest in converting their fleets to natural
gas to help curtail harmful air pollution and greenhouse gas
emissions, and reduce their transportation operating costs. Clean
Energy (Nasdaq: CLNE) is the leading provider of natural gas (CNG
and LNG) for transportation in North America. It has a broad
customer base in the refuse, transit, ports, shuttle, taxi,
trucking, airport and municipal fleet markets, fueling more than
14,000 vehicles daily at strategic locations across the United
States and Canada. Clean Energy del Peru, Clean Energys Peruvian
joint venture, operates the worlds largest natural gas vehicle
fueling station in Lima, Peru. Information at:
