Business Wire
Catalyst Rx, the pharmacy benefit management subsidiary of
Catalyst Health Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHSI), has been awarded the
Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute's (PBMI) 2009 Rx Benefit
Innovation Award with its client partner, New Mexico Public Schools
Insurance Authority (NMPSIA). NMPSIA and Catalyst Rx were
recognized for their Pharmacists as Immunization Providers
vaccination program, which successfully increased immunization
rates for NMPSIAs members. This is the second consecutive year
that Catalyst Rx has been recognized by PBMI for innovative
pharmacy benefit solutions, making Catalyst Rx the first company to
win the award in back-to-back years.
Our 2009 award recipients have differentiated themselves from
industry norms with creative new approaches, says Dana H.
Felthouse, MBA, president of PBMI. Another hallmark of the winners
is a passion for collaboration among multiple stakeholders. The
solutions are programs that demonstrate success in improving
pharmaceutical and health care as well as curbing costs.
NMPSIA and Catalyst Rx developed the Pharmacists as Immunization
Providers Program, a strategic approach to support
pharmacist-administered vaccinations with pre-negotiated pricing,
electronic claim adjudication and data tracking. The program,
ideally suited for large, rural states, went beyond the traditional
model of health care by removing significant barriers to care that
were keeping immunization rates low. As a result, more than 29,000
vaccines were administered to more than 15,400 NMPSIA plan
participants since July 1, 2006, by New Mexico state-certified
pharmacists from more than 120 communities.
Through this program, NMPSIA members, particularly children,
are receiving the vital health care they need within their own
communities, said David Blair, Chief Executive Officer of Catalyst
Health Solutions. The future impact of this program is significant
because it demonstrates that when obstacles to accessing care are
eliminated, individuals and their communities will take part in
preventative health measures.
PBMI's Rx Benefit Innovation Awards were presented at its annual
Drug Benefit Conference, held March 4 through March 6, 2009, in
Phoenix, AZ. The annual Rx Benefit Innovation Award competition is
open to all drug benefit plan sponsors, PBMs and health plans,
facilitating the sharing of innovative practices among industry
stakeholders. Catalyst Rx was a recipient of the award in 2004, as
well as in 2008. The Catalyst Rx and NMPSIA Pharmacists as
Immunization Providers Program is one of four programs recognized
for the award in 2009.
