Against the Russian ruble, the US dollar showed strength in New
York trading on Thursday. The greenback jumped up to 30.1295 versus
the ruble by about 11:45 am ET, compared to yesterday's closing
value of 30.0835. At present, the pair is trading at 30.07.
Russia's manufacturing activity expanded for the first time in
over a year in September, a survey by Markit Economics and VTB
Capital showed Thursday.
The seasonally adjusted purchasing managers' index for the
manufacturing sector stood at 52 in September, representing the
first expansion in fourteen months. The PMI has risen every month
since hitting a record low of 33.8 in December 2008, Markit
said.
A reading above 50 indicates expansion, while a reading below 50
signals contraction.
