Inventories at U.S. wholesalers increased in October at broadly the same pace as the previous month, data from the Commerce Department showed Friday.

Inventories of U.S. merchant wholesalers increased 0.5% in October on month, easing slightly from the 0.6% increase registered in September, the data showed.

Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal expected inventories to rise by a bigger 0.8%.

The ratio of inventories to sales stood at 1.32 in October, sharply up compared with the 1.21 seen the same month a year earlier, a sign of moderating demand and easing supply-chain bottlenecks.
