GIMLI, Manitoba, Dec. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The intrigue
and adventure of the Canadian wilds is captured in Entrapment™
Canadian Whisky, the most recent release from the Orphan Barrel
Whiskey Distilling Company and the first Canadian whisky to join
the Orphan Barrel portfolio.
Occasionally, when using full blends of Crown Royal Whisky,
there are small quantities of barrels left unused that don't fit
into the full blend. This whisky is returned to the barrel and
tucked away in the cool rickhouses of Canada waiting to be rediscovered.
In 1992, part of a batch of Crown Royal Fine De Luxe blend was
left behind and has been aging in barrels in the Crown Royal
distillery in Gimli, Manitoba ever
since. Now, we can give true whisky adorers a taste of something
unlike anything they've had before. This beautifully aged Canadian
whisky was sent to Tullahoma,
Tennessee 25 years later to be hand-bottled.
"Overall, the combination of rareness, distinctiveness and blend
of whiskies that makes up Entrapment offers Canadian whisky lovers
a remarkable tasting experience," said Sophie Kelly, Sr. Vice President of North
American Whiskeys at Diageo. "Part of Canadian whisky's success is
based on distillers' willingness to experiment with mash bills and
barrels, producing complex results and bringing out unique flavors.
Innovation is flourishing, giving the category the attention it
deserves."1
Crown Royal is a significant driver of Canadian whisky growth
and leads the category worldwide. Shanken News Daily reports
that although flavored whisky is continuously trending, premium
Canadian whisky is also on the rise.2
The mash bill for Entrapment is 97 percent corn and three
percent malted barley. Beginning with vanilla, toffee and delicate
toasted oak on the nose, Entrapment tastes light and creamy with
hints of tobacco and walnut. The finish is warm with notes of dried
fruits reminiscent of plums and raisins.
"Both Crown Royal's Canadian history and Orphan Barrel Whiskey's
legacy of rare and notable releases are quite special," said Diageo
North American Whiskey Educator, Doug
Kragel. "Whiskey adorers can now taste the complexity of a
25-year-old Canadian whisky in an Orphan Barrel offering. For me,
it's almost like two worlds in one glass."
This whisky has been waiting many years to be found, so we ask
our adult consumers lucky enough to get their hands on it to sip
slowly and responsibly.
The Orphan Barrel Project was started in 2014 with the goal of
locating nearly forgotten barrels of whiskey from around the world
and sharing them with discerning adult fans. Entrapment is the
first Canadian whisky in the Orphan Barrel collection, which has
previously released ten American whiskeys: Barterhouse Kentucky
Bourbon (20-year-old), Old Blowhard Kentucky Bourbon (26-year-old),
Rhetoric Kentucky Bourbon (20-year-old, 21-year-old, 22-year-old
and 23-year-old), Lost Prophet Kentucky Bourbon (22-year-old),
Forged Oak Kentucky Bourbon (15-year-old), The Gifted Horse
American Whiskey (4-year-old) and Whoop & Holler
(28-year-old).
Entrapment's label design captures the promise of adventure and
celebrates the freedom of an outlaw brand. Entrapment is available
in select markets at a suggested retail price of $149.99.
About The Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Company
The Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Company is an endeavor to
rescue nearly forgotten barrels of delicious whiskey and share them
with discerning adult consumers. We are inspired by creativity,
delicious whiskey, good times and great stories. The project is
owned and run by Diageo and headquartered in Tullahoma, Tennessee. However, we like to
think the project is founded in dark, quiet, corners of rickhouses
around the world where great whiskeys were nearly forgotten just
waiting to be discovered.
To date, the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Company has
released eleven whiskeys: Barterhouse 20-Year-Old, Old Blowhard
26-Year-Old, Rhetoric 20-Year-Old, Rhetoric 21-Year-Old, Rhetoric
22-Year-Old, Rhetoric 23-Year-Old, Lost Prophet 22-Year-Old, Forged
Oak 15-Year-Old, The Gifted Horse 4-Year-Old, Whoop & Holler
and Entrapment. As new and interesting whiskeys are discovered,
they will be added to the family to provide adult consumers a great
selection of unique whiskeys.
