Kohl’s Department Stores (NYSE: KSS) announced a $50,000 cash donation in response to the recent flooding and tornadoes in the Southeast. Kohl’s is providing this donation to the American Red Cross which is delivering much-needed emergency assistance throughout the region.

In addition to a financial contribution, Kohl’s is encouraging its associates to volunteer in support of cleanup efforts through its A-Team associate volunteer program. In exchange for volunteer hours, Kohl’s will make corporate grants to the nonprofit organizations being supported by Kohl’s associates.

“Our thoughts are with the thousands of families affected by the devastating tornadoes and massive flooding in the Southeast,” said Julie Gardner, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Kohl’s Department Stores. “Kohl’s strives to be an active member of each community it serves. At times like these we feel it’s important to do even more, and are proud to provide financial assistance and the hands-on support of our associate volunteers.”

Year-round, Kohl’s A-Team volunteers support a range of local nonprofit organizations. Since 2001, more than 248,000 Kohl’s associates nationwide have participated in nearly 40,000 A-Team events, completing more than 828,000 volunteer hours resulting in the donation of more than $21 million to local nonprofit organizations. The A-Team volunteer program is part of Kohl’s overall philanthropic platform, Kohl’s Cares for Kids®, which is committed to supporting children’s health and education initiatives nationwide. Since 2000, Kohl’s has raised more than $150 million through its Kohl's Cares for Kids program.
