Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) has extended a special offer for free same day or next day professional installation of Charter Telephone service to all current VonageTM customers in Charter's service areas. Vonage customers can take advantage of this offer by calling a dedicated Charter hotline: 1-866-952-3135. Concerned Vonage customers have been calling Charter over the past several weeks. Having reliable home phone service is important to them, so we developed a special program to provide rapid installation of Charter Telephone service to make the transition easier, said Ted Schremp, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Charter Telephone. Charter Telephone service is provisioned over a private, managed network, unlike offerings such as Vonage that run on the public Internet. Calls can be made directly through any working in-home jack, and customers do not need to purchase new equipment. Charter Telephone offers customers an unlimited local and long distance calling plan for the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico that includes 10 features and voicemail at no additional charge. Competitive international rates and packages are also available. Customers may also be able to keep their current phone number. All Vonage customers have high-speed Internet service, said Mr. Schremp. Now, by bundling their Internet and phone service with Charter Digital Cable, they will be able to fully enjoy the great value and convenience that Charter provides to all of our customers. New customers pay as low as $99.97 for Charters triple-play bundle. Enhanced 911 emergency service comes standard with Charter Telephone. When dialing 911, the customers call is directly routed to the nearest public safety operator and the address is automatically transmitted. Directory assistance (411) and listings in the local telephone directory are also available. Charter Telephone reached the 500,000 customer mark in February of this year, and has more than quadrupled its number of customers since the beginning of 2006. Today it passes nearly 7 million homes, and Charter plans to launch telephone service in more markets this year. Charters current areas of coverage include Long Beach, San Gabriel Valley, Riverside/Inland Empire, Los Angles, and Glendale, CA; Willimantic and Newtown, CT; Gwinnett County and Athens, GA; Worcester and Chicopee, MA; Kalamazoo, Grand Haven, Holland, Allendale, Traverse City, Bay City and Saginaw, MI; Rochester, MN; St. Louis, MO; Reno, NV; Asheville and Hickory, NC; Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson, SC; Jackson, Blount County, Cleveland and Tri-Cities, TN; Fort Worth, TX; Kennewick and Yakima, WA; and Fond du Lac, Madison, Wausau and Eau Claire, WI.
