Detroit's Newest Hockey Team Asks Fans to Pick Name Online Voting Available to Name WHA Team to Play at Pontiac Silverdome PONTIAC, Mich., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit's newest hockey team, the Detroit franchise of the World Hockey Association, is asking hockey fans to name the team. Fans can log on to http://www.senticore.com/ to cast a vote for their favorite name for the WHA team that will take the ice this October in a newly-installed ice arena at the Pontiac Silverdome. Senticore, Inc. (OTC:SNIO) (BULLETIN BOARD: SNIO) , a diversified public holding company, last month announced its purchase of the Detroit WHA franchise. According to Senticore CEO Jay Patel, "Detroit is the greatest hockey town in the world and this team belongs to the fans. We want the fans to be involved in every aspect of the game, including the naming of the team." Team names to vote for on the Senticore web site include: * Detroit Cougars * Detroit Demons * Detroit Gladiators * Detroit Speed * Detroit Dynamos These five names represent the top two finalists from a previous online poll, as well as three fan favorites from an offline poll. Final voting on the Senticore web site will remain open through Sunday, June 27, with the team name to be announced on June 30. Detroit is one of eight hockey franchises currently scheduled to play in the inaugural WHA season. Other confirmed franchises are located in Dallas, Texas; Orlando, Fla.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Quebec City, Quebec. Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, are considered franchises in good standing, pending the completion of lease negotiations with local arenas. The WHA anticipates a total of 10 - 12 franchises confirmed before the July 10 free agent and entry level draft. The Detroit team is scheduled to play its 38 home games this season at the Pontiac Silverdome, which will be configured into an Olympic-sized hockey venue with the installation of a 200-ft. by 100-ft. ice pad in the east end zone. The addition of 2,000 new club seats will bring the Silverdome lower bowl seating capacity up to 18,620. Second-level seating and 52 luxury suites will increase total capacity to 23,540. For special events, the arena can accommodate up to 36,500 fans, making the Silverdome the largest multiple- event hockey venue in North America. The original World Hockey Association, which first took the ice in the 1970s and was considered by many to be on par with the NHL, featured such legends as a young Wayne Gretzky; Gordie Howe, who was lured out of retirement to play with his two sons; and Bobby Hull, who stunned the NHL by leaving the Chicago Blackhawks for a lucrative contract from the WHA and today serves as commissioner of the new league.
