PA Governor Rendell Delivers $1.5 Million to Lackawanna Co. for
Visitors Center, Stadium Improvements SCRANTON, Pa., Oct. 27
/PRNewswire/ -- PA Governor Edward G. Rendell delivered $1.5
million in state funding to Lackawanna County officials for
improvements to the Lackawanna County Visitors Center and the
Lackawanna County Multipurpose Stadium. "These are projects that
reflect community pride and partnership in Lackawanna County,"
Governor Rendell said. "They are a perfect example of the type of
targeted investment we must make as a state if we are to drive
economic growth here in Lackawanna County and throughout the
Commonwealth." The Governor announced the award of $1 million for
the Visitors Center to build a trolley station at the center and a
pedestrian link between the stadium and the center. The project
also includes construction of a rail line and overhead electric for
the trolley from the visitors center to the stadium. Governor
Rendell also presented $500,000 to the county for improvements at
the stadium, including construction of a trolley station and new
multi-purpose fields. The project also includes improvements to the
"Stadium on Ice" rink. On March 25, Governor Rendell delivered an
historic speech to a joint session of the Pennsylvania Legislature
in which he outlined his Plan for a New Pennsylvania. The
Governor's Plan calls for the reduction of property taxes in each
of our state's 501 school districts, unprecedented levels of
education funding, and an economic stimulus package that will have
an economic impact of greater than $5 billion. "I introduced the
Plan for a New Pennsylvania because I see a day on which we can be
funding worthy projects just like this one introduced by Senator
Mellow all over this state," the Governor said. "We can attract new
businesses to our state, we can help create high-quality jobs for
our citizens and we can revitalize our towns and cities with the
infusion of life that new jobs can bring with them." CONTACT: Abe
