COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho, Aug. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation (NYSE: CDE; TSX: CDM), parent company to Coeur Alaska, Inc., said it was pleased that the U.S. District Court for the State of Alaska has dismissed a suit challenging the company's 404 permit in connection with the Kensington Gold mine. In its ruling, the Court noted that "The Corps [of Engineers] properly issued the permit to Coeur Alaska." The permit had been the subject of a lawsuit filed against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers by The Sierra Club, the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council, and Lynn Canal Conservation. Coeur's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis E. Wheeler, said, "We are appreciative of the tremendous work that the Corps, the U.S. Forest Service, and the State of Alaska have done throughout this permitting process and the subsequent legal challenge. The legal staff of the U.S. Department of Justice and State of Alaska Attorney General's office have vigorously represented the Corps of Engineers and the State in the permitting process. The court decision is a true validation of all this diligent work." He added, "We applaud the Court's decision, which allows construction work to continue at Kensington, where Coeur's 2006 investment is expected to total more than $100 million and where some 300 workers are building a mine that's generating significant long-term economic benefit for Southeast Alaska. Further, the Court decision represents a validation of the lengthy and exhaustive permitting process which resulted in a mine plan that employs state-of-the-art technology to operate in accordance with the highest standards of environmental compliance." He added, "In light of this Court decision, it is our hope that that the plaintiffs will now put the interest of the Alaskan people ahead of their own and abandon any further efforts to slow down the construction of the mine. The mine enjoys the support of 76% of Juneau-area residents, according to a recent independent opinion poll. We believe this reflects widespread awareness of the many benefits of the mine."
