Tyco International Taps Chief Representative and a Communications Director to Manage Growing Presence in China PEMBROKE, Bermuda, April 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tyco International (NYSE:TYC)(BSX:TYC) recently appointed two key hires to represent Tyco in China. The company has named Michael T. Byrnes as vice president of public affairs and president of Tyco China and Ross L. Ma as director of communications for China. Throughout China, Tyco has nearly 28,000 employees and numerous facilities representing each of the company's five business segments including Electronics, Healthcare, Fire & Security, Engineered Products & Services and Plastics & Adhesives. Byrnes, 59, most recently served as chief representative and vice president of China operations for Rockwell International. In this new position, Byrnes will promote and advance Tyco's multi-faceted business capabilities and diverse business interests in the growing China market. He will be based in Beijing. Byrnes will manage government relations and public affairs at all levels in support of both corporate and local business unit goals. He will serve as Tyco's primary liaison to national, provincial and municipal Chinese government officials, coordinating the company's interests relating to trade, investment, regulatory affairs and U.S.-China relations. Byrnes has more than two decades of direct experience in China. He served 30 years as an officer in the United States Army, rising to Major General. His experience in Asia included working as a military attache to the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong and culminated as the U.S. defense attache at the U.S. embassy in Beijing. Byrnes holds a Master of Arts degree in strategy and operations from the Navy War College, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Asian studies/international relations from the University of New Hampshire. Ma reports to Charles Young, Tyco's senior vice president of marketing and communications. Prior to Tyco, Ma, 44, worked at a number of leading multi- national companies in China including Boeing, Burson Marsteller and Edelman. At Tyco, he will be responsible for leading the company's communications, branding and employee communications activities in China.
