Volkswagen AG (VLKAY) said Friday it sold 1,024,008 vehicles in China last year, an increase of 12.5% from 910,491 in 2007.

The German automaker, which retains its position as the best-selling foreign manufacturer of passenger autos in China, sold 844,491 units of Volkswagen-branded autos, an increase of 8.2% from 780,784 units in 2007, Volkswagen said in a statement.

Audi sold 119,598 units in China last year, up 17.3% from 101,996 units the year earlier, it said.

Sales of Skoda autos more than doubled to 59,284 units. In addition, the group sold 518 Bentley cars and 117 Lamborghini cars in 2008.
