Microsoft Selects SDL in Multi-Million Dollar Contract

Signs 3 year "premier supplier" agreement for language services

Maidenhead, UK - 20 December 2004 - SDL International, the world's leading
provider of translation services and technology solutions, announced today that
it has been appointed as a "premier supplier" of translation and localization
services to Microsoft. The agreement, which is not constrained by language or by
Microsoft product, includes a multi-million dollar minimum commitment each year
for 3 years.

"Following SDL's high quality performance as a preferred supplier, and its
development of innovative technical solutions to improve the localization
process, Microsoft is very pleased to make SDL one of its premier suppliers of
translation solutions," commented Lori Brownell, General Manager, Global
Platforms, Technologies and Services Group at Microsoft. "With SDL's extensive
language translation network and its investment in technology, we are confident
it can provide the quality, performance and scalability of service that we
require."

"It is rewarding for both our shareholders and staff to start to see the returns
from our investments in infrastructure, process and technology," said Mark
Lancaster, Chairman and CEO of SDL International. "Having invested over $20m in
R&D to increase quality and productivity, and built the world's largest network
of local offices, this 3 year commitment from Microsoft, one of the most
experienced localization outsourcing companies, is a tremendous endorsement for
our long term strategy."
