                                 Trading Update

KBC Advanced Technologies plc ("KBC") a leading consultant to the oil industry,
provides a trading update for the second half of 2004 to date.

2004 has been a year of transition for KBC where the focus has been the creation
of the environment required for the resumption of revenue growth and
profitability in 2005. Two key events were required in order for this to happen:
the resolution of the Software litigation and the launch of the new service
offerings supported by the new software products.

In the last two months both of these events have fallen into place. In September
we launched the ProfitManager suite of applications and services incorporating
Petro-SIM, the new software product. This was followed by the announcement of
the agreement with Aspen Technology Inc on 1 October which put an end to the
litigation with a cash settlement of #2.1m and will result in an exceptional
credit in 2004 of over #1m. The management and sales and marketing resources
within the business have been focused on achieving these two aims and thereby
building the prospects for 2005.

In the meantime sales awards in the third quarter of 2004 have been
disappointing and several key contracts necessary to deliver expected revenue
for the second half year have been deferred. As a consequence revenue for the
year is expected to fall to around #30m and at the operating level a loss is
therefore expected of #1m for the year.

Peter Close, Chief Executive, commented:

"Whilst it is clearly disappointing to be reporting this downturn in expectation
for this year it should not detract from the potential that is being built for
2005. The market is receiving Petro-SIM well and discussions are ongoing with a
number of clients to purchase the product. Hence our expectations for 2005
remain unchanged as a result of this announcement."

                                    - ends -
