DELTRON ELECTRONICS plc
Deltron Electronics plc, the Pan-European specialist distributor and
manufacturer of electromechanical components, held its AGM at Suffolk House,
Fordham Road, Newmarket, Suffolk. Following the meeting, Paul Gourmand,
Chairman, made a statement on the Company's current position. A summary of
his remarks follows:
Trading
Deltron has enjoyed a record year's trading:
* Growth is being driven by the increasing use of electromechanical
products in such applications as telecommunications infrastructure and
Internet developments
* All of the principal European countries are currently experiencing
considerable growth in the use of technology.
* Pan-European strategy attracting major product manufacturers to
appoint Deltron as prime European distributor
* The principal highlights outlining our outstanding performance
are:
- Turnover up 42.3% to #54.3m
- Profits before tax and amortisation of goodwill up 225% to #4.1m
- Earnings per share (before goodwill amortisation) up 230% to 13.2p
per share
- Order intake grew to #60.4m, up 53% leading to a strong order book
at the year-end
Strategy
Deltron's strategy for a Pan-European network realised during 2000:
* Deltron now active in 75% of the applicable European markets,
making the Company the 4th largest distributor of electromechanical components
in the EU
* Five European acquisitions in 12 months, including the #3.8m
acquisitions of C&K Austria GmbH and the sensors business of Sensortech A/S in
Denmark (concluded in January 2001)
* Five Pan-European distribution agreements with Japanese and
American manufacturers
Placing & Open Offer
Deltron's successful fundraising in October 2000 results in strong financial
position
* Placing and Open Offer of 5.8m shares raised #7.5m net -
sufficient funds to enable Deltron to double in size over two years
* New investors include ABN AMRO and Merrill Lynch.
"Deltron is now a truly pan-European company. A buoyant continental European
economy makes the Board confident of our short-term performance. The
weakening of sterling against the euro also gives us an immediate boost.
However, it is our long-term prospects across Europe that give me the most
confidence. Major manufacturers have appointed Deltron as their prime
distributor for Europe, a clear indication of our capabilities. The Board
looks forward to 2001 with the greatest of enthusiasm."
