                     Resignation of Group Finance Director


Carpetright plc today reports that Darren Shapland, the Group Finance Director,
has resigned his position to become Chief Financial Officer of J Sainsbury plc.
Whilst the leaving date for Darren is still to be confirmed, it will not be
before the announcement of Carpetright's full year results at the end of June
2005.  The process to find a successor for Darren is already underway.


Lord Harris Chairman and Chief Executive said:


"Darren has done an excellent job for Carpetright and has been an important
member of the senior team.  We know though that Sainsbury's offers him a great
opportunity to further develop his career and wish him every success in this new
position."
