The issued share capital of the Company less the shares held in Treasury was
27,921,688 not 29,921,688, as previously stated.

Charter European Trust plc announces that on 19 January 2007 it purchased, for
cancellation, 72,000 Ordinary 1p Shares (representing 0.25% of the issued
Ordinary capital), at a price of 204.1p per Ordinary Share.

Settlement of the purchased 72,000 Ordinary Shares is due on 24 January 2007.

Following the purchase and cancellation of the 72,000 Ordinary Shares, the total
number of Treasury Shares held by the Company will be 1,485,000. The issued
share capital of the Company, less the total number of Ordinary Shares held in
Treasury, will be 27,921,688 Ordinary 1p Shares.
