WARSAW--Poland's top insurer PZU SA (PZU.WA) reported Thursday a
23% drop in net earnings to 843 million zlotys ($248 million) amid
higher net claims and a lower return on its financial assets.
Analysts polled by The Wall Street Journal expected the
insurer's earnings to have dropped to PLN845 million between July
and September.
The company's net claims rose to PLN2.99 billion from PLN2.75
billion a year earlier, higher than the market has expected at
PLN2.86 billion.
