Lonmin: Wage Demands by Mineworkers Union Unrealistic
January 21 2014 - 2:06PM
Dow Jones News
LONDON--Platinum producer Lonmin PLC (LMI.LN), together with
Impala Platinum (IMP.JO) and Anglo American Platinum (AMS.JO), said
Tuesday that the current wage demands by the Association of
Mineworkers and Construction Union are unaffordable and unrealistic
and a strike will not benefit workers.
MAIN FACTS:
-Offers on the table by the three platinum companies currently
in collective bargaining processes with AMCU range from:
* 8% to 8.5% for employees in the A and B-band bargaining
unit.
* 7.5% for C level employees.
* Accommodation and other allowances will also be increased.
-Offers compare favorably with increases in other sectors and
are above the current inflation rate of 5.3%.
