Airbus SE on Thursday said it had received an order for 17 A321neo aircraft--the largest member of its A320neo family--from Latam Airlines Group SA, a month after a U.S. bankruptcy judge approved a chapter 11 exit plan for the troubled airline.

The European plane maker said the order from Latam, which is also bringing in the A321XLR for long-haul operations, effectively takes the airline's total A320neo order book aircraft to 100.

"This order for the A321neo on the heels of its restructuring is a strong sign," Christian Scherer, chief commercial officer and head of Airbus International, said. "The A321XLR will enable the opening of new routes and will allow Latam to increase its international reach in the region," he said.
