#CorbySafeRides campaign encourages Torontonians to take a responsible consumption pledge

TORONTO, Dec. 1, 2015 /CNW/ - This New Year's Eve, Corby Spirit and Wine has your transportation covered. The company announced today it is extending its Corby Safe Rides partnership with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) for an additional three years into 2019. Originally announced in 2013, the partnership provides Torontonians with free TTC rides on New Year's Eve in support of responsible consumption and safe transportation options on one of the busiest nights of the year. Once again this year, the #CorbySafeRides campaign will kick-off complimentary, extended service beginning at 7p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2015 until 7a.m. Friday, January 1, 2016.

"We're thrilled to extend our #CorbySafeRides program with the TTC for another three years to support this important initiative," said Patrick O'Driscoll, President and CEO of Corby Spirit and Wine. "They have become a true partner for us in our efforts to raise awareness against drinking and driving.  If you'll be ringing in the New Year by raising a glass, then put down your car keys – your safe ride is on us."

"Thank you to Corby Spirit and Wine for continuing to partner with the TTC until 2019. ‎New Year's Eve is one of our busiest nights, and this important partnership allows our riders to have a free and safe ride to and from their celebrations," said TTC Chair Josh Colle.

"Every New Year's Eve the TTC connects hundreds of thousands of people with great events in Toronto," said TTC Deputy CEO and Chief Customer Officer, Chris Upfold. "We are delighted to renew our partnership with Corby Spirit and Wine for an additional three years. Because of this partnership, our customers can make the right choice on New Year's Eve – that is to ride free and ride safe."

As part of this year's #CorbySafeRides initiative, Corby is also encouraging the public to take a pledge not to drink and drive on New Year's Eve (and of course, all year round!). Those who join in this commitment will be entered in a contest for the chance to win a year of free TTC passes. Riders can take the pledge with their smartphones by using the Shazam app to scan specially-marked #CorbySafeRides posters appearing in above-ground service (buses and streetcars), or on token boxes attached to bottles of J.P. Wiser's whisky, Polar Ice vodka and Kahlúa liqueur available at 65 LCBO stores across Toronto. The 11,000 complimentary tokens attached to bottles provide another free, safe ride to Torontonians over the 2015 holiday season. Torontonians can also pledge by visiting corby.ca/pledge.

"Last year, in partnership with the TTC, Corby helped more than 225,000 Torontonians get to and from their New Year's Eve events safely through #CorbySafeRides," said Amandine Robin, Director of Communications, Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility, Corby Spirit and Wine. "As one of Canada's leading marketers and distributors of spirits and wines, we're committed to educating Canadians on responsible alcohol consumption not just over the holidays, but during any party occasion. This year's responsible drinking pledge will hopefully inspire audiences across the country to put this into practice and take action."
