INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- America's Second Harvest -- The Nation's Food Bank Network today announced a donation of 750,000 STEAKBURGER(TM) patties from The Steak n Shake Company. The donation was made possible by funds raised by the Company's associates, guests and franchisees, as well as the Company's foundation. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000606/STEAKLOGO ) A four-day campaign raised money for the victims of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. As part of the campaign, the Company allowed its more than 20,000 associates to wear casual clothes, rather than uniforms, in exchange for a donation to the campaign. In addition, the Company provided its guests with the opportunity to contribute to the campaign. To enhance the campaign's effectiveness, the Company's foundation then matched all donations received, dollar for dollar. The proceeds were then leveraged through the help of the Company's vendor and partner, Cargill, to maximize the number of STEAKBURGER(TM) patties, which will be distributed to and by America's Second Harvest. "We are extremely grateful to The Steak n Shake Company for their donation of STEAKBURGER(TM) patties," said Robert Forney, president and CEO of America's Second Harvest. "Donations of high-quality meat products are highly desired by our food banks and the clients we serve." Peter Dunn, The Steak n Shake Company's President and CEO, said, "We are committed to making a difference in the communities in which we serve and the communities at large in times of need. The Steak n Shake organization is proud to be doing our small part in helping with hurricane relief efforts. Our associates quickly stepped-up and built a plan to try and help the hurricane victims.
