To view the Multimedia News Release, go to: http://www.prnewswire.com/mnr/sixflags/21171 Tornado will launch riders from a 75-foot platform, plunging down a 132- foot tunnel, before splashing back and forth through a giant funnel of 5,000 gallons of gushing water. Once riders reach the vortex of the Tornado, they will be pushed through the eye of the storm and into a cool catch pool below! Guests will navigate the colossal blue and yellow-checkered structure on a unique cloverleaf-shaped tube that seats up to four riders. Tornado, resembling a giant household funnel turned on its side, will tower 75 feet over Crocodile Isle wave pool and will be visible as guests approach the theme park's main entrance. When construction is complete, Tornado will make its twisting, swirling, whirling debut in the spring of 2005. "We are committed to offering our guests greater value and enhancing their family getaway experience. With the addition of Tornado, Six Flags Darien Lake continues to strengthen local tourism efforts and draw more people to this region," says Bradley Paul, vice president and general manager of Six Flags Darien Lake. Tornado's unique design has received numerous accolades, including the amusement industry's 2003 Golden Ticket Award for Best Waterpark Ride and the IAAPA 2003 Best New Product Award in the Waterpark Category. "This ride encompasses both our guests' desire for more excitement and for more water attractions," said Linda Taylor, marketing director. "Tornado's extreme tubing experience increases our guests opportunity to conquer bigger thrills and expands our water area to an enormous 425,000 square feet." There are also plans to expand the walkway leading to Tornado to include a new food and beverage stand, Gully Washer's, expected to open in the spring. Gully Washer's will feature traditional theme park favorites and Coca-Cola products and will be located adjacent to Crocodile Isle wave pool.
