The Pacific West Chapter of Ingram Micro's (NYSE: IM) VentureTech
Network (VTN) announced today it will join LIVE
STRONG®'s fight against cancer with a $21,000 donation
from member organizations. LIVE
STRONG is the
brand of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, created in 1997 by the
cancer survivor and champion cyclist to serve people living with
cancer and empower communities to take action.
In February, the VTN Pacific West Chapter, whose growing
membership consists of 43 of the western region's most successful
IT solution providers, created their first Give Something Back
community event in partnership with LIVESTRONG. In just six weeks, members raised money from
pledges for exercising -- walking, running, biking, hiking,
jogging, swimming, or any activity where they could track their
distance covered, a total of 21,000 miles.
"The goal was to get our chapter off to a healthier 2011 and
make everyone aware of the importance of getting out, getting up
and getting moving," says Patrick Ciccarelli, president and chief
executive officer of Varsity Technologies, and co-president of the
Pacific West VTN Chapter.
"It is with tremendous gratitude that LIVESTRONG accepts the donation offered by the members of
the Pacific Northwest Chapter of VentureTech Network," says Doug
Ulman, LIVESTRONG president and chief
executive officer. "This contribution will offer essential support
to those affected by cancer and further underscores our resolve to
support, champion and win in the fight against cancer."
"We wanted to give something back to the community," says
Lesleigh Watson, chief operating officer at Northwest Computer
Support and co-president of the Pacific West VTN Chapter.
While the fundraising effort was spearheaded by Pacific West VTN
members Afinety, Northwest Computer Support and Varsity
Technologies, it gained the participation of so many members, says
Watson.
"We are very geographically diverse as a chapter and we needed
something everyone could work toward," she says. "We are really
spread out -- from Alaska to New Mexico -- and this was a great way
to tie in everyone together for one cause. At the end of the day
though, it wasn't so much about the dollars, but the participation.
We were really taken back by the level of response received from
the PacWest Chapter."
As business owners, the Pacific West VTN Chapter understands the
importance of giving back to the community and plans to continue
its fundraising activities, says Ciccarelli.
"At a personal level this has moved us to do fundraising every
spring," he adds. "We've got the right momentum around our
memberships to make this an annual effort," says Ciccarelli.
"Since 2009, the Ingram Micro VentureTech Network and its
regional Chapters have collaborated to find ways to give back to
the communities, people and businesses they serve," says John Fago,
senior director, channel marketing, Ingram Micro North America. "We
applaud the efforts of the VTN PacWest Chapter and commend them for
working together to raise so much, so fast for LIVESTRONG."
