INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS FORM 6-K REPORT
In the context of the Companys restructuring discussions with its lenders (the Lenders) under its Syndicated Credit Facility, the Lenders agreed to forbear from their rights in connection with the installment due on January 2, 2013, and covenant-related waivers were extended, through March 31, 2013. The Companys access to the escrowed funds has been similarly extended to March 31, 2013.
Management continues, and expects to make progress in, its discussion with all of the Companys lenders.

Excel is an owner and operator of dry bulk carriers and a provider of worldwide seaborne transportation services for dry bulk cargoes, such as iron ore, coal and grains, as well as bauxite, fertilizers and steel products. Excel currently owns and operates a fleet of 39 vessels (seven Capesize, 14 Kamsarmax, 14 Panamax, two Supramax and two Handymax vessels), one of which, a Capesize vessel, is owned by a joint venture in which Excel holds a 71.4% interest, with a total carrying capacity of approximately 3.6 million DWT. Excels Class A common shares have been listed since September 15, 2005 on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the symbol EXM and, prior to that date, were listed on the American Stock Exchange (AMEX) since 1998.
