Below is a video transcript of a message delivered by Frank B. Holding, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of First Citizens BancShares, Inc. to employees of CIT Group Inc. on October 16, 2020.

Hello, I’m Frank Holding, Chairman and CEO of First Citizens Bank.

I wanted to tell you how excited I am about our upcoming merger with CIT.

Why?  Two reasons.

First, the similarities.  Our histories match up.  We’re both known for our strong cultures.  We both have a reputation for taking care of our customers.

Second, the differences.  While First Citizens has traditionally focused on high quality, branch-based service, CIT has also built a strong nationwide direct bank.  We’re experts in small-business banking; you’re experts in commercial banking.  Our retail footprint is strongest in the southeast; yours is strongest in the southwest.

Those similarities and differences bring a net positive for both banks – each complementing the other in valuable ways.

Now, there’s a phrase you’ll be hearing as we move forward together:  “Forever First.”

It’s our motto.  What it means is, however our business changes, what doesn’t change is our commitment to our customers.  We believe in better banking that helps people live better lives.

And that’s what’s so special about this merger.

It’s two great banks coming together.  Not just to make a bigger bank.  But to make an even better bank.

For all.

Thanks so much.
