FORT WORTH, Texas, May 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- AZZ Inc. (NYSE:
AZZ), a global provider of galvanizing services, welding solutions,
specialty electrical equipment and highly engineered services to
the power generation, transmission, distribution and industrial
markets, today announced that AZZ's Galvanizing Segment won
"Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing" awards in five categories,
including the prestigious "Lifetime Achievement" award. The
American Galvanizers Association ("AGA"), a leading trade
association in the galvanizing industry, presented the awards.
Presented annually, the award program recognizes projects that
utilize after-fabrication hot-dip galvanized steel in an ideal,
creative, monumental, or otherwise impressive fashion. The
Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing Awards recognizes the special
skill and efforts of galvanizers, fabricators, architects,
engineers, contractors, and all other parties as they complete
projects that will remain durable, beautiful and maintenance-free
for generations to come. All submissions were judged online
by a panel of architects and engineers.
"AZZ is honored to have received recognition by the American
Galvanizers Association for these projects," said David Nark, Vice
President of Marketing for AZZ Inc. "The broad range of
categories for which AZZ received awards is evidence of our
commitment to the use of hot-dip galvanizing to protect structures
from corrosion in a variety of industries and communities. We
look forward to working with architects, engineers, fabricators and
contractors on projects for next year's competition."
The Lifetime Achievement award was presented to AZZ Galvanizing
– Jackson for its work on Baseball Man, a twelve-foot-tall
structure at the Gulfport Sportsplex complex in Mississippi.
For several years, Baseball Man has stood at the entrance to
the Sportsplex, where he inspired young athletes to be strong, work
hard and never give up. Surviving hurricanes, fires and the
harsh environment found along the gulf coast, Baseball Man
continues to serve as the proud symbol of baseball in the
region.
AZZ Galvanizing – Hamilton and
AZZ Galvanizing – Joliet were the
proud recipients of the "Building and Architecture" award for their
combined efforts in providing hot-dip galvanized steel for the
Rubb USA Aircraft Hangar in
Rockford, Illinois. When
airplane maintenance leader AAR Corp was looking to build two new
maintenance hangers that would provide space for the largest
commercial and military cargo planes, they selected hot-dip
galvanized steel truss structures for their longevity, cost
effectiveness, and superior corrosion protection. Capable of
housing an Airbus A380 jumbo jet, the 1,100 tons of columns, beams,
and peripheral steel form two dynamic 10-story tall arched
structures and dramatically change the landscape at the
Rockford International Airport
located just outside Chicago,
Illinois.
AGA's "Artistic" award was earned by AZZ Galvanizing –
Hamilton and AZZ Galvanizing –
Canton who teamed up to provide
galvanizing services for the Minnesota Vikings Legacy Ship
located just outside the new US Bank Stadium. The steel
construction of the legacy ship required a coating that would be
durable enough to survive the rigors of numerous harsh Minnesota winters. The hot-dip
galvanized coating offers outstanding corrosion protection while
maintaining an aesthetic that blends with the traditional Viking
ship building materials.
This year's award winner of the "Recreation and Entertainment"
category was AZZ Galvanizing – Crowley for their work on the McKinney
Aquatics Center. Located approximately 32 miles Northeast
of Dallas, this growing community
was chosen by Money Magazine in 2014 as the best place to live in
the country. At the heart of McKinney is the new 80,000 square foot
facility, which hosts a gymnasium, sports court, elevated track,
classrooms, child care and a 10,000-square foot indoor pool.
Hot-dip galvanizing was specified for its long lasting,
maintenance-free corrosion protection, as well as for it
aesthetically pleasing zinc coating that will not fade over
time.
The "Civic Contribution" acknowledges AZZ Galvanizing –
Bristol for their contribution to
Sharon Fields located in
Allegheny County, Virginia. The community project was a
collaboration between the Clifton Forge Little League, the
Allegheny Foundation, and the Virginia Tech School of
Architecture. Due to the profile and function of the
structures, the Virginia Tech students
viewed hot-dip galvanized steel as the perfect solution for
baseball backstops due to its environmentally friendly
characteristics and visual appeal.
