Series 60 Engine Installation Approved by Detroit Diesel Ahead of
Deadline CHARLOTTE, Mich., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Spartan Chassis, Inc., a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc.
(NASDAQ:SPAR), today announced it has received approval from
Detroit Diesel for the installation of their EPA 2007 certified
Series 60 engine. Spartan Chassis committed a significant amount of
engineering resources to the development, testing and introduction
of the 2007 Series 60 engine for its Gladiator fire truck chassis.
The engine will continue to deliver the same power and performance
expected by fire truck customers -- with up to 515 hp and 1650
lb.-ft. torque -- while meeting the new more stringent EPA emission
standards. "Spartan Chassis and Detroit Diesel worked productively
together to validate the installation of the 2007 S-60 without
compromising our customers' needs," said Richard Schalter,
president of Spartan Chassis. "Based on successful chassis testing
and installation reviews, that partnership is now paying off with
the approval of the Series 60 engine coming well ahead of the
January 1, 2007 deadline." The new 2007 Environmental Protection
Agency Emissions Standards require engine makers to reduce nitrogen
oxide emissions by more than 50 percent and particulate matter
emissions by 90 percent for all on-highway diesel engines produced
in 2007. About Spartan Chassis, Inc.: Spartan Chassis, Inc.
