Boingo’s Derek Peterson Named CTO of the Year

Boingo Wireless (NASDAQ:WIFI), the leading DAS, small cell and

worldwide, today announced that its chief technology officer, Derek
Peterson, Ph.D., has been named CTO of the Year by the Los Angeles
Business Journal. The publication’s annual CTO Awards recognized
Dr. Peterson for leading Boingo to milestones that include the
launch of Passpoint, international expansion of Boingo Broadband
and deployment of cellular distributed antenna systems (DAS) and
small cell networks at large public venues across the country.

Awards recognize the prominent leaders who are at the forefront of

As Boingo’s lead technical strategist, Dr. Peterson
is pioneering the adoption and deployment of the latest wireless
technologies including Passpoint, an auto-authenticating Wi-Fi
solution, and network functions virtualization (NFV). He is an
industry advocate for the network convergence of licensed and
unlicensed spectrum to accommodate the rapid growth of mobile data
traffic and helps drive standards adoption through his involvement
with the Wireless Broadband Alliance, MulteFire Alliance, CBRS
Alliance, Wi-Fi Alliance, WIA’s Innovation Council and the New IP
Agency (NIA).

recently honored with wireless industry awards that include the
2016 Wireless Broadband Alliance award for “Best Converged Operator
Deployment;” 2016 Light Reading award for “Most Innovative Wireless
Service;” 2015 Wi-Fi Industry awards for "Best Wi-Fi Network
Operator" and "Best Wi-Fi Service for Vertical Markets" and the
2014 Light Reading Leading Light award for "Most Innovative Carrier
Wi-Fi Deployment.”
